ARRANGING THE REMOVAL

The previous section helped you in choosing the best date to make the removal and gave you some advise about doing it yourself or by employing a specialized company.

A couple of months before the removal, you have to provide all you need and inform all the companies you need for the services.
PACKING:
You have to provide all you need and start packing any of the less useful things. If you are going to require some assistance by a removal company, be aware that they can provide packing materials. You can find more about it in the ?Packing and Boxes? section.
REMOVAL COMPANY:
If you are going to entrust your removal to a company, ask them for an offer 2 months earlier than the removal time (in the summer season, three-four months earlier).
Be aware about which services can provide the removal company; in particular, be sure that:
- they have some insurance against damages to the materials, buildings and people
- they use some external lifts (unless you are on the ground or first floor); this equipment drastically reduces the possibility of damaging buildings and materials
- if they use some external lifts, they ask the authorities the permission to occupy the public soil
- they disassemble and assemble the furniture
- they disassemble and assemble the kitchen; some movers don?t do it
- they pack your things or not (usually they don?t)
- a qualified person (like the owner or a person in charge) is there when they do the removal; this means reliability.
- get information about the reliability of the company, by asking someone who knows them
HOUSE PAINTER:
Usually the flat you leave must be given back whitewashed; if you don?t do it by yourself, you have to arrange for it to be done.
PLUMBER:
Fix an appointment with the plumber for the day after the removal, in order to link sanitary and gas plants. If they are already linked, you don?t need him.
ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR:
In case you need to link some electrical devices, notify him in advance.
TV PLANT CONTRACTOR:
Contact him if you need to disasseble your satellite TV plant from your old home and install it in the new one.

Even if there is still a lot of time before the removal, start to pack the things you are sure not to use:
- books; be sure the weight of the boxes doesn?t exceed 20 kg (keep in mind that books are very heavy, so you can easily exceed this limit even by packing a few)
- last season?s clothes; take advantage of this occasion by getting rid of the useless clothes (you could give them to poor people, think it over)
- the things you stored a long time ago in your cupboard, in the loft or in the cellar
- the things spread through the garage
Take advantage of this occasion by getting rid of the useless stuff

Begin to use up your deep-frozen foods; they wouldn?t last for the length of the remove. Three-four days before the removal, it?s advisable to start using up all the foods stored inside your refrigerator. A day before, when the refrigerator has been emptied, you can clean it carefully.
At this time you have to start taking care of gas, water and electricity transfers (see the bureaucratic section).
